Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader speaking to the media after inaugurating the highway police command and monitoring control centre at the Meghna toll plaza in Narayanganj on Sunday (Jun 2).This year’s Eid journey is the most comfortable and hassle-free due to improved road conditions on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway, said Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader.
His remarks came on Sunday (Jun 2) while speaking to the media after inaugurating the highway police command and monitoring control centre at the Meghna toll plaza in Narayanganj.
“Vehicles are reaching Cumilla in one-and-half hour and Chattogram in four hours from Dhaka due to the improved communication,” he said.
He added that there aren’t any tailbacks at the highway and the suffering of north-bound passengers have finally come to an end with the highways to Tangail and Mymensingh being upgraded to four lanes.
The minister said that the control centre will monitor traffic on the highway and soon rest houses will be built on the highways so that the drivers can rest.
Responding to queries in the possibility of terror attacks, he said, “Militancy is a global issue. We have been successful in dealing with militancy since the Holy Artisan Bakery attack.”
“Despite that the possibility of a militant attack cannot be completely ruled out but our law enforcers are on the alert,” he said.
