A first grader girl has been reportedly raped in Baniachong upazila of Habiganj.
The incident was reported around 1am on Saturday (May 11) from Kakura village in the upazila’s Pukra Union, said police quoting locals.
The suspect has been identified as 20-year-old Jahangir Mia.
Locals said the girl was in the yard of her house around 8pm on Friday (May 10) when she was allegedly abducted by Jahangir Mia. He forcefully took her to a nearby bush and raped her.
Hearing her screams, locals in the area came to rescue her while Jahangir fled the scene.
Around 1am on Saturday, she was rescued from the scene and rushed to Habiganj Sadar Hospital in critical condition. The doctors there were unable to stop the profuse bleeding and decided to transfer her to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.

Dr Arshad Ali, consultant at gynaecology department of Habiganj Sadar Hospital, said: “The victim is in critical condition while we advised to take her to Sylhet.”
“We are trying to determine the whereabouts of Jahangir. We will arrest him soon,” said Baniachong police OC Rashed Mobarak.
