Three members of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) have been suspended on allegations of mugging.
The order was given on Monday (May 6) by RMP Commissioner Humayun Kabir.
The sacked police members are: ASI Shariful Islam and constables, Monirul Islam and Sujan Ali.
RMP spokesperson, Golam Ruhul Kuddus, says: “The complaint was investigated by the deputy commissioner and after the allegations were found to be true, the commissioner ordered temporary suspension.”
Now the matter will be thoroughly investigated and then steps taken, said the spokesperson adding that temporary suspension is the first step.
On Apr 29 last, a person called Abdul Hakim submitted a written complaint against ASI Shariful Islam, stating that a team led by Shariful intimidated his brother Salahuddin and took Tk 3,000; another Tk 4,000 was taken by mobile based money transferring service, Bkash.
Salahuddin who had come to Rajshahi to get treatment for heart disease became victim of police harassment.
Acting OC of Rajshahi police, Hafizur Rahman, says: “Three policemen were withdrawn from the station for misbehaving.”
