Lightning under the influence of severe cyclonic storm ‘Fani’ has killed four people including a minor boy during thunderstorms in Kishoreganj.
Two people were killed in the district’s Mithamain Upazila and one in Itna and Pakundiya Upazilas each, police said on Friday (May 3).
In Mithamain, lightning struck 7-year-old Suman Mia when he was returning home with cattle during the storm, leaving the boy and a cow dead on the spot.
Twenty-two-year-old Md Mohiuddin was killed after lightning hit him while cutting paddy in the water body of the upazila’s Biramchar village.
In Itna, 26-year-old Rubel Das sustained burns after lightning stuck on his way home. Critically injured, Rubel was taken to local health complex where doctor declared him dead, local police OC Mohammad Murshed told Bangla Tribune.
In Pakundiya, 45-year-old Asad Mia was killed after lightning hit him while collecting grass for cattle during the thunderstorms, said local police OC.
The incident was reported from the upazila’s Koshakanda village, added the OC.
Severe cyclonic storm ‘Fani’ is likely to cross the Odisha coast of India by the afternoon, move north-northeastwards over the Odisha-West Bengal coastal area, and reach Khulna and adjoining south-western parts of Bangladesh by midnight.
