A court in Feni has ordered fresh remands for five suspects in the killing of madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi.
On Thursday (May 2), police were granted two days each to grill suspects Shahadat Hossain Shamim and Javed Hossain while five days each for Iftekhar Uddin Rana, Imran Hossain Mamun and Mohi Uddin Shakil.
Eighteen-year-old Nusrat was set on fire on Apr 6 at an examination centre at a madrasa in Feni’s Sonagazi Upazila town for refusing to withdraw a sexual abuse charges she had brought against the madrasa principal Siraj-ud-Doula.
After battling death for five days, she succumbed to the 80 percent burn injuries on Apr 10 at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
A total of three suspects including prime suspect principal Siraj confessed to their involvements in the killing.
GD against ex-Sonagazi police OC
A counter-general diary (GD) has been filed against Inspector Moazzem Hossain, the now-suspended officer-in-charge (OC) of Sonagazi Model Police Station Moazzem Hossain over leaking a video footage of Nusrat’s testimony on the social media, reports UNB.
Local journalist Atiar Hawlader Sajal lodged the complaint on Thursday with Songazi police after he came to know about another GD filed against him by Moazzem on Apr 14, four days after the police officer was withdrawn from the station.
The former OC filed the GD accusing the reporter of stealing information from his personal mobile phone.
He had claimed that Atiar, a reporter with news channel Somoy TV’s Feni bureau, stole the video of Nusrat’s testimony from his phone to socially harass him.
Meanwhile, in his GD, Atiar alleged that Moazzem himself had sent the video to Atiar on Apr 8 to prove that Nusrat had a tendency to commit suicide before the arson attack.
The OC was withdrawn and attached to the Armed Police Battalion (APBn) on April 10 as Nusrat’s family members alleged that they were not getting proper cooperation from him.
