Two alleged pirates have been killed Cox’s Bazar in what the police described as shootout.
The incident was reported early on Tuesday (Apr 30) from Aliya Akbar Deil area in the district’s Kutubdia Upazila, said police.
The deceased have been identified as 32-year-old Erfan Ullah Prakash alias Erfan Majhi and Nur Hossain.
“Erfan Majhi’s gang members opened fire at the police team when the team was conducting a raid to recover arms in the area. In retaliate, police had to fire back in self defense. Later, two bodies were found at the scene,” said Kutubdia police OC Didar Ferdous.
“A locally-made gun, four bullet shells and 400 yaba tablets were recovered from the scene,” said Ferdous.
“Seven cases, including murder cases, filed against Erfan,” he said.
“The bodies have been sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital,” added the OC.
