A police constable has gone missing during a clash with fishermen in Meghna River.
The incident was reported at Charkoraliya area in Chandpur’s Haimchar upazila around 12am on Saturday (Apr 27), said police.
The missing policeman is Constable Mosharraf Hossain, said Haimchar police OC Sheikh Mohshin Alam.
Alam said, "A team of police conducted a drive in the area late on Friday to arrest a man, who faces arrest warrant.”
Noticing law enforcement agency, a group of fishermen attacked the police assuming that the lawmen have come to arrest them for catching Jatka (hilsha fry) defying the ongoing ban.
The fishermen attacked the boat carrying the police with bamboo sticks and brick chips, he added.
“Police fired five rounds of blank shots to bring the situation under control," said Alam before adding, "Mosharraf went missing during the incident."
A joint force of coast guard, navy and police were conducting rescue operation to trace Mosharraf, said the OC.
