Police have recovered the burqa used by one of the five assailants of Feni madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi, who died of critical burn injuries after an arson attack.
On Saturday (Apr 20), it was recovered from a canal near by the madrasa in Feni’s Sonagazi Upazila, said Inspector Shah Alam of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), who is charge of the probe.
He said that the key evidence was recovered upon information gleaned from suspect Jobayer.
According to statements by two others suspects Nur Uddin and Shahadat Hossain, five people, including themselves, who were clad in burqa people took part in the Apr 6 attack, when Nusrat was set on fire by pouring kerosene on her. On Friday (Apr 19), PBI investigators led Special Superintendent Muhammad Iqbal took one of the female suspects in the murder Kamrun Nahar Moni to visit the crime scene and a local shop from where the burqas were purchased.
“The investigators will visit several other spots with suspect Moni,” he said before declining to provide any other details.
Nusrat, was set on fire on Apr 6, the day of her Alim examination by burqa-clad assailants for refusing to withdraw sexual assault charges against Siraj-ud-Daula.
She died of extensive burn injuries at Dhaka Medical College Burn Unit on Apr 10.
PBI has so far arrested 18 people in connection to the murder and four people including key suspects- Nur Uddin, Shahadat Hossain Shamim, Abdur Rahin Sharif and Hafez Abdul Quader confessed to carrying out the arson attack at the behest of Siraj.
