Two factions of Awami League (AL) in Narsingdi have engaged in a clash leaving 20 injured.
The incident was reported in Alipura of Nazarpur union in Sadar upazila on Friday (June 1), Karimpur police outpost sub-inspector Alamgir Hossain confirmed.
Police and local residents said the AL leaders Kamal Hossain member of Alipura and Shahjahan Mia of Uttorpara had a long-lasting feud over establishing supremacy.
Alamgir Hossain said, “Supporters of both the leaders engaged in violent argument that led to the clash. Supporters of Shajahan Mia looted goods from the shops belong to members of Kamal group.”
The situation is under control, he added.
Alal Uddin, Jewel Mia, Mansur Mia, Nannu Mia, Rahim Badsha, Shahidullah Mia, Karim Mia, Gulzar Hossain and Aman Ali were injured in the incident, among others.
When contacted, mobile phones of Shajahan and Kamal were found switched off.
