The Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RMP) is all set to start its official journey on Jul 1, keeping several top posts vacant including its commissioner.
The Ministry of Public Administration has directed to appoint 1185 police personnel to function the city police, said an RMP official.
He said, “Two officials with deputy commissioner (DC) rank – Ibne Mottahi Mina and Mohidul Islam, were transferred to lead the forces. Of them, Islam has already joined the office.”
In addition to the post of the Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Additional Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner are yet to fulfil.
Speaking on official activities, DC Islam told Bangla Tribune, “With nine police stations, the Metropolitan Police will now operate its activities from a newly-built two-storied building in Dhap area of the city.”
New office will be taken after the appointment of the Commissioner, he added.
On Apr 12, the Parliament passed the bill for the Rangpur Metropolitan Police in a bid to ensure better public security in the Northern city.
The Rangpur City Corporation was formed in 2012 with 203 square kilometre areas and nearly eight lakh dwellers.
