Three feared missing as storm sinks trawler in Meghna

Three people, including a policeman and a female Ansar member, are feared missing after a trawler capsized in the Meghna River in a storm in Narayangan’s Char Hogla area.
Two of the missing people have been identified as Town Sub-Inspector Md Selim and Meghban Branch Manger of United Commercial Bank Limited Borhan Uddin while detail of the female Ansar member was unavailable, police said
The law enforcers were returning to their workplace after performing polls duty at Narayanganj’s Sonargaon.
Munsiganj police OC Alamgir Hossain said the engine-boat went unaccounted-for on Sunday (Mar 31) evening when a seasonal storm lashed the area while it was crossing the river.
Nearly 20 people including polls officials, police and Ansar members were on the boat. Of them, three including a policeman went missing, said Narayanganj’s Bandar marine police outpost in-charge Mostafizur Rahman.
Mumsiganj’s Muktarpur marine police outpost in-charge Aminul Islam said the trawl sank in the Narayangan end of the river.
As many as 16 passengers of the boat, which was carrying polls materials, have been reused, said Pagla Coastguard Sub Lt M Mamtazul Islam Asif.
