Rumki Akter and Maksudur Rahman are a married-couple who died in the fatal fire at Banani’s FR Tower.
The couple worked at a travel agency in the building.
Rumki, who hailed from Nilphamari’s Joldhaka was the youngest of the three siblings and lost her mother five months ago.
She and her husband were supposed to go to Nilphamari to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr with her family but that was not to happen.
Thirty-one year old Maksud who hailed from Dhaka’s Gendaria died after jumping off the 11th floor of the building to escape the flames.
Meanwhile, 28-year-old Rumki who was seven months pregnant died of suffocation from the thick smoke on the 10th floor.
Rumki’s brother Roushan Ali Rony, a teacher at Binnakuri High School said that he spoke to her on Mar 17 when she told him about the trip they were taking to Nilphamari.
He broke down in tears, knowing that his only sister would never return. Their oldest brother Rafiqul Islam Rocky, 35, was speechless and their father Ashraf Ali was senseless with grief.
Rumki’s uncle and Joldhaka Upazila Council Chairman said that Maksud’s body has been handed over to his family and her body was brought back to Nilphamari by her father.
Joldhalka UNO Md Sujauddaula said that she has been laid to rest to beside her mother at the family graveyard.
