Omar Faruk and Zakaria Bhuiyan, who were among four Bangladeshis killed in the Christchurch mosque shooting in New Zealand, have been laid to eternal rest in Narayanganj and Narsingdi, respectively.
Faruk was buried in Chitashal graveyard in Rajbari of Narayanganj, after a namaz-e-janaza, held at Sirajuddoula Club field, around 10am on Wednesday (Mar 27).
Meanwhile, Zakaria Bhuiyan was buried in his family graveyard following a namaz-e-janaza held at the Joypura Village Eidgah grounds, under Palash upazila of Narsingdi, around 11am the same day.
Hundreds of people—including the victims’ friends, families and villagers—attended their burials.
Following Faruk's burial, Narayanganj City Corporation Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy visited and consoled the bereaved family of the victim.
Previously, on Tuesday (Mar 26), family members and relatives of the two deceased victims received the bodies at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 10:25pm.
The bodies of Faruk and Zakaria were brought to their respective villages the same night.
Faruk left Bangladesh for New Zealand in 2015 in search of a better life. He worked for a construction firm in Christchurch, and was married to Sanzida Jahan Niha from his native area.
Zakaria Bhuiyan was working at a firm in New Zealand. He was married to Rina Akhter, and had finished all preparations to bring his wife with him to Christchurch.
On Mar 15, as many as 50 devotees were shot dead by a white supremacist at two mosques named Al Noor and Linwood at Christchurch.
Among the dead, five men were identified as Bangladeshi nationals. Two bodies of the Bangladeshi victims arrived in Dhaka on Tuesday night.
