Dhaka University Central Students Union (DUCSU) Vice President Nurul Haque Nur has demanded student unions polls in all the universities across the country.
His demand came on Tuesday (Mar 26) while speaking to the media after paying his respects at the National Martyrs' Memorial.
“The students from our panel Shadahron Chhatra Parishad will take part in the university student union polls and the general students want it too,” he said.
He added that the students themselves were witness to how after the 90s the educational environment was disrupted due to the misuse of student politics.
Nur said that given the popularity they gained with their protests last year, he was confident that the student unions will soon be held in all the universities.
On the DUCSU polls being marred by allegations of vote rigging and irregularities, he said, “Protests are ongoing regarding the DUCSU polls irregularities. That’s why I called for protests despite being elected VP.”
He said that the students and teachers of other universities have seen for themselves the irregularities of the Mar 11 DUCSU polls and hoped that “such an election won’t take place there.”
He said that when injustice crosses its limits, the students are unstoppable in their protests.
