A man has been killed in Chattogram in what the Rapid Action battalion (RAB) described as shootout.

The incident was reported around 4.30am on Monday (Mar 25) from Chonua area in the district’s Banskhali Upazila, said RAB.

The victim is yet to be identified.

“Being tipped off that a group of pirates has gathered in the area, RAB conducted a drive there. Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the pirates opened fire, forcing them to fire back in self-defense which triggered the shootout,” RAB-7 Assistant Director Mashku Rahman told Bangla Tribune.

“The incident left a pirate dead on the spot while the others managed to flee the scene,” said Rahman.

“Seven firearms and 22 rounds of ammunition have been seized from the scene,” he added.

“The body has been sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital,” added the elite force official.
