Upazila polls: BGB on alert at Cox’s Bazar border

BGB says its members are on a high alert at the Teknaf border to prevent any attempt of violence on the voting day.With voting underway in the third phase of Upazia Council polls, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members are on high alert at Cox’s Bazar borders to deal with any unwarranted situations.

Cox’s Bazar’s Teknaf and Ukkhiya upazilas are among the 117 upazilas which went to polls on Sunday (Mar 24)

Voting began on 8am and will continue until 4pm.

BGB says its members are on a high alert at the Teknaf border to prevent any attempt of violence on the voting day.

“The beefed up security arrangements are aimed at ensuring a free and peaceful voting,” Teknaf BGB-2 Battalion’s Acting Commander Major Shariful Islam Jamaddar told Bangla Tribune.

“BGB is ready to deal with any uncalled for situations over the polls. They are patrolling the border night and day, “said Jamaddar before adding that the border forces are especially cautious to prevent any arms smuggling through the border.

Eight platoon of BGB are on election duties.

Areas where the BGB members have their added attention are— Teknaf Upazila border’s Hoaikong, Unchiprang, Jhimongkhali, Kharangkhali, Hnila, Leda, Nayapara, Damdamia, Teknaf Sada, Nazirpara, Sabrang and Shah Porir Dwip.
