An auto-rickshaw driver has been reportedly killed in Narayanganj’s Araihazar Upazila.

The incident was reported from the upazila’s Kalapaharia area on Tuesday (Mar 12) evening, said police.

The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Nur-a-Alam.

Citing family members of the deceased, police said that Alam engaged in an argument with a local garage owner Shafiqul when he (Alam) went there to fix a wheel of his auto rickshaw. Later, Shafiqul started hitting Alam indiscriminately and pushed him to a nearby tree. Alam was seriously injured after being hit with the tree and he succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.

The suspect, Shafiqul, has been detained over the incident, Araihazar police OC Akhter Hossain told Bangla Tribune.

The body has been sent to hospital for autopsy, said Hossain.

Police said that a case is filed over the incident.
