A group of students under the banner of ‘Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (Rucsu) Andolan Mancha’ has pressed their demand to hold the Rucsu election within the current year.
The student faction came up with the demand during a press briefing in the Amtola area near the Paribahan market on Tuesday around 2pm.
Rucsu Andolan Mancha Convener Abdul Majid said: “For quite a while, we have been organizing various movements including petition signing, debates, open discussions and demonstration rallies demanding the Rucsu polls.
“In continuation, we are organizing a discussion meeting among the students and teachers on Monday, attended by important professors from Rajshahi, Jahangirnagar and Dhaka University.”
Previously, the Rajshahi University authorities had formed a committee to engage in dialogue with student bodies, who had been urged to submit their documents by February 11.
The student organization leaders and activists also expressed deep concern about the irregularities during the Ducsu polls at the press briefing.
At the same time, they expressed their solidarity with the demands from all panel leaders who boycotted Ducsu polls, and also demanded a re-election.
