An alleged drug peddler has been killed in Cox’s Bazar in what the police described as shootout.
The incident was reported from Satghoria Para in the district’s Teknaf Upazila early on Monday (Mar 11), said police.
The victim has been identified as 23-year-old Abdur Rahman.
“Being tipped off that a group of drug traders would gather in the area a team of police conducted a drive around 4am. Sensing the presence of police, the drug traders opened fire, forcing them to fire back, triggering the shootout,” said Teknaf police OC Pradeep Kumar Das.
“Police rescued Rahman who sustained bullet injuries and took him to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead,” said Das.
Police also seized 3,000 yaba tablets, one firearm, three rounds ammunition and six empty bullet shells from the scene.
