One presiding officer and two presiding officers have been held for allegedly stamping the ballot papers the night before the Upazila Council polls began at a centre in Sirajganj.
The incident took place at the upazila’s Mahmudpur Government Primary School at 2 am on Sunday (Mar 10), confirmed Sirajganj Sadar Upazila Returning Officer and Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Firoze Mahmud.
According to district election office sources, said that the election officers were allegedly stamping the ballot papers in favour of their chosen candidates.
The district election officer Md Abul Hossain and Hakim Md Rahmad Ullah led a raid at the centre upon receiving the news.
They saw a couple of ballot papers lying around the floor and primarily held eight people. After questioning them, three were handed over to the police and the rest were released.
“Voting has been halted at that centre for irregularities,” said Md Feroze Mahmud.
