Upazila polls: Clash leaves 7 injured in Habiganj

Police constable Jamal Uddin, who was severely injured, has been sent to Dhaka through a helicopterSeven people including policemen and Ansar members were injured in a clash between the supporters of ruling Awami League and a rebel candidate during the Upazila Council polls at Habiganj.
The incident was reported on Sunday (Mar 10), from the district’s Baniachong Shahpur Government Primary School polling centre.
Police constable Jamal Uddin, who was severely injured, has been sent to Dhaka through a helicopter, confirmed Shahpur centre Presiding Officer Jahir Alam.
The rest of the injured are receiving primary treatment, he added.
Alam said that voting at the Shahpur centre has been halted after the clash.

The first phase of the upazila polls began on Mar 10 in the 87 upazilas in the 12 districts of Sylhet, Myemnsingh, Rangpur and Rajshahi.For the first time, the polls are taking place in party lines meaning the candidates will be contesting with a political party's electoral symbol.
