Man killed in Khulna 'shootout'

A man, accused in ten criminal cases, has been killed in Khulna in what the police described as a shootout.

The incident was reported from the district’s Daulatpur Thana around 11.20pm on Friday (Mar 8), said police.

The deceased has been identified as 27-year-old Mirzaul Islam Miraz.

“Miraz was detained by the police Friday night from Senpara area. After initial interrogation, a team took him on a drive to seize illegal cosmetics near the Agriculture College field,” Daulatpur police OC Kazi Mostak Ahmed told Bangla Tribune.

“A gang of culprits hiding in the area began firing on the police, triggering the shootout. Miraz got shot during the incident. He was taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where the doctor declared him dead,” said the Ahmed.

The OC added that one firearm, two rounds of ammunition, two cleavers, one knife, a screwdriver, a cache of stolen goods and 50 yaba tablets were seized from the scene during the raid.
