A newly wedded woman was allegedly killed by her husband at Tangail’s Shakhipur Upazila.
The incident was reported on Tuesday (Feb 26) night, said Shakhipur police OC Amir Hossain.
The accused is Shariful Islam who got married to the victim, Rumi Akter a month ago.
According to her family, Shafiul was an addict and used to physically abuse her.
“They came to visit Rumi’s father’s house on Tuesday and had an argument before going to bed,” said Mehedi Sikder, the victim’s uncle.
He added that at one point Shariful suffocated her to death.
Sikder said that when her family realized what happened they screamed for help and locals caught him and handed him over to the police.
OC Amir said that the suspect is in custody and was being interrogated.
