An alleged drug peddler has been killed in Kushtia’s Kumarkhali Upazila in what the police described as shootout.
The incident was reported near from Chachua wetland in Balulat Union’s Adabaria area around 4am on Tuesday (Feb 26), said police.
The victim has been identified as 38-year-old Emdad Khunkar.
“Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid at the area in the early hours of Tuesday. As soon as the police team reached at the spot, the drug peddlers opened fire at them and in self defense police had to fire back which triggered the shootout. Later, police found a bullet-ridden body at the scene and he was taken to Kushtia General Hospital where the doctor declared him dead,” said Kumarkhali police OC AKM Mizanur Rahman.
“The deceased is identified as Emdad who was accused in several narcotic cases filed with different police stations in the district,” added Rahman.
A foreign pistol, three rounds of bullet and 100 yaba pills were seized from the scene,” said the OC.
The body has been kept at Kushtia General Hospital for autopsy.
