The 67-year-old Mostafizur Rahman Selim, the former general secretary of Awami League's Pakshi union unit, suffered bullet injuries near his residence in Rooppur village around 9pm on Wednesday (Feb 6). Later, he died on the way to a hospital, said police.
The victim's younger brother, Rubel Hossain, said, Mostafizur was returning home—on foot from Rooppur BBC bazar—when a group of miscreants, riding a motorcycle, opened fire on him and left him injured.

Relatives and local people took him to Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex at first, but later began transferring him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital around 10pm, as his condition had deteriorated. He died on the way to the second hospital.

“Mostafizur was struck by several bullets on his back and chest. He was promptly transferred to Rajshahi for further treatment, however, he died on the way there,” said Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex Residential Medical Officer Dr Shafiqul Islam Shamim.

"Being informed, we went to the spot. However, we are yet to know the reason behind the incident,” said Additional Superintendent of Pabna Police Gautam Kumar Biswas.
Mostafizur was conscious when he was taken to the hospital, however, he said that he could not identify the shooters as it was dark, he added.

"We have started to investigate over the killing," added Gautam.
