An unidentified man has been killed in Kushtia’s Sadar Upazila in what the police described as shootout.
The incident was reported around 1am on Saturday (Jan 26) from the upazila’s Molla Teghoria area, said police.
“Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a drive at the area in the early hours of Saturday. Sensing the presence of law enforcing men, a group of drug peddlers opened fire on the police, forcing them to fire back which triggered the shootout,” said Kushtia police OC Nasir Uddin.
“Later, a bullet-ridden body was recovered from the scene which has been sent to local state-run hospital for autopsy, added OC Nasir Uddin.
Four police members including Sub-Inspector Mustafiz were injured during the shootout.
Police said that they seized a pistol, two bullet shells, two magazines and 800 yaba pills from the scene.
