Awami League candidate Talukder Abdul Khalek and BNP’s Nazrul Islam Manju have cast their votes in the Khulna City Corporation election.
The polls began at 8am and shortly after that they went to their polling stations to cast their franchises.
Talukder Abdul Khalek cast his vote at Pioneer Girls School station while Nazrul Islam Manju at Rahima Government Primary School station.
Khalek said, “No untoward incident is reported and the polls is continuing in peaceful and festive manner.”
In his reaction, Manju said, “I heard that my agents were driven out from at least 30 polling stations. I request the Election Commission to take necessary steps so that my agents can perform their duty,”
He, however, said he would stay in the race till the polls conclude.
As many as 148 candidates are contesting for councilors in 31 wards of the city corporation while another 35 have vied for 10 reserved women councilor.
The number of voters in the city corporation stands at 493,093, who are expected to cast their franchises at 1,561 booths in 289 polling stations.
