AL must apologize to nation for Noakhali rape: Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir visited the woman in Noakhali who was gang-raped for allegedly casting her vote in favour of `paddy sheaf.` Fakhrul was accompanied by Oikya Front leaders during the visit on Saturday (Jan 5). The senior BNP leader demanded that the Awami League apologise for the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.The Awami League must apologize to the nation for the rape of the woman in Noakhali and ensure exemplary punishment for the perpetrators, said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
“The violence that took place in the name of polls will take the country back to the undemocratic dark ages,” he told the media on Saturday (Jan 5) after visiting the woman in Noakhali who was raped allegedly for casting her vote in favour of ‘paddy sheaf.’
He added that the nation was hoodwinked and that the violence that preceded and succeeded the polls was the first of its kind in history.
On Dec 31, a mother of four was gang-raped for allegedly casting her vote for ‘paddy sheaf.’ The woman is undergoing treatment at Noakhali General Hospital and police have so far arrested seven suspects in the case.
The alleged mastermind of the incident and one of the arrestees, Ruhul Amin, a local AL leader was banished from the party earlier in the day.
Fakhrul was accompanied by other Oikya Front leaders including, ASM Abdur Rab, Abdul Quader Siddiqui, Barrister AM Mahbubuddin Khokon, Barkatullah Bulu, Md Shahjahan, Shahiduddin Chowdhury and Annie Pramukh.
