The decision was taken in an emergency meeting held on Friday (Jan 4) night, said Upazila Awami League President Advocate Omar Faruq.

“Ruhul Amin has been expelled and dismissed from all party activities because of his immoral actions,” said Faruk.

Police has so face arrested seven suspects in connection to the gang rape of a woman, allegedly for casting her vote in ‘paddy sheaf,’ BNP’s polls logo.

Char Jabbar Police OC Ibrahim Khalil, who is also the investigation officer in the case, told the media on Friday that they have received the medical report which has the evidence of rape.

On Dec 30, the voting day for the national election, the accused threatened the victim after she casted her vote for paddy sheaf and later that night they gang-raped the woman in her residence, according to her husband.

A group of people knocked at our door saying they were the police and barged in after 12 am,” he said. “They tied me and my children up and took my wife outside where they raped her and beat her up indiscriminately,” he added.

He said that the 15-16 men involved in the brutal act were about to murder his wife when she recognised them, but left her on the yard after she pleaded for her life.

The husband alleged that while she was being taken to the Noakhali General Hospital for treatment, local thug and Awami League’s district unit publicity secretary, Ruhul Amin’s men threatened their entire family if they divulged the attack to the media.

On Dec 31 the victim’s husband filed a case against nine people.

Deputy Inspector General of Chattogram Zone, Golam Faruk, visited the victim on On Jan 2 and assured that the perpetrators will not be spared.
