Two alleged drug peddlers have been killed in Feni in what the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) described as shootout.
The incident was reported from the district’s Dagonbhuiyan Upazila in the early Wednesday (Jan 2), said RAB.
The deceased are identified as 26-year-old Asad and 24-year-old Anamul Haque Akand.
RAB started chasing a ‘suspicious’ covered van after receiving a tip that some drug peddlers were transporting ‘substantial amount of drugs’ from the Dharmapur border area in Feni Sadar to Lakshmipur. When the covered van reached the Selonia area, the drug peddlers started firing at the RAB personnel and inretaliate RAB fired back which triggered the shootout, said RAB-7 captain Shafayet Jamil.
Asad and Akand died during the shootout, added Shafayet Jamil.
The bodies have been sent to Feni Sadar Hospital, the elite force official added.
