Jubo League leader killed in polls violence

RangamatiA leader of ruling Awami League's youth front Jubo League has been killed in a fight between activists of AL and BNP in Rangamati district. Ten others also injured in the incident.

The killing was reported from Rangipara area of Ghagra union of the district’s Kawkhali Upazila before the voting started.

The deceased was identified as Basir Uddin (35), general secretary of Jubo League of the union.

Kawkhali Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Assistant Presiding Officer Mizanur Rahman confirmed it.

Eyewitnesses said that a sudden clash erupted between supporters of AL and BNP just before the voting and at least 11 including Basir were injured.

Critically injured Basir was rushed to Chittagong Medical where the duty doctors declared him dead. The injured are treated at Kawkhali Health Complex.

Kawkhali Officer-in-Charge Manjur Alam told Bangla Tribune, “A Jubo League leader was killed in a clash, but the situation is normal now and voting is going on peacefully.”
