“Go to the polling stations with friends and family and cast your vote. Remember, you can free your daughter-in-law by casting your votes,” said the party general secretary on Wednesday (Dec 26) during a polls campaign.

Incarcerated BNP chief Khaleda Zia’s late husband Ziaur Rahman, who founded the party, hails from Bogura.

Mirza Fakhrul is running on the party’s ticket from the Bogura -6 seat after the High Court scrapped Khaleda’s nominations.

Alamgir also told the crowd, it’s through the ballot-battle that can restore freedom and sovereignty of the country.

“This vote will pave the way towards establishing rule of law and justice. Democracy will be restored through this election,” added the senior BNP leader.

Accusing the government of harassing and attacking BNP activists, Alamgir said, “They are misleading the nation with lies and the people want to be free from Awami League’s oppression.”

“This oppressive regime has jailed BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia through a farcical trial,” he said before adding, “I am here to represent Khaleda Zia, not to contest the polls.”
