Journalists attacked in Nawabganj, 10 injured

The attackers vandalised 16 vehicles including transports belonging to the Jamuna TV and Jugantor on Dec 24.Journalists of private TV channel Jamuna and Daily Jugantor came under attack which left at least 10 injured in Dhaka’s Nawabganj, locals said.

The incident was reported on 10:30pm Monday (Dec 24) when at least 10 vehicles, belonging to the media houses, were also vandalised.

According to locals, some 30 mass media workers went to Nawabganj to cover polls campaign on Monday. A gang of 20-25 goons attacked the media workers with sticks and sharp weapon leaving at the 10 injured at the Shamima Guest House, where they were staying. The attackers also vandalised 16 vehicles including transports belonging to the Jamuna TV and Jugantar.

Jamuna Group Chairman Nurul Islam Babul’s wife Advocate Salma Islam is contesting in the polls as an independent candidate from Dhaka-1 constituency comprising of Nawabganj and Dohar areas.
