At least 35 people, including women, have been injured in a Narsingdi village after clash erupted between factions of the local Awami League.
Police said the incident was reported on Tuesday from Chardighaldi Union council near the district town.
According to Chardighaldi residents, the local Awami League unit’s President Alamgir Hossain and General Secretary Mia Chan have been at loggerheads for quite some time over turf control.Around 8am on Tuesday, an argument broke out between supporters of Hossain and Chan at the local market in Anantarumpur village.
Armed with spears and other local weapons, supporters of the two factions clashed with each other soon after leaving several people injured.
Local Madhabdi police’s OC Muhammad Elias said that as many as 33 people, including 18 with injuries inflicted by spears, have been taken to the state-run hospital in Narsingdi town.
“Additional police forces have been deployed in the area to avoid further trouble,” he said.
