A Union Parishad chairman in Narsingdi has been killed in a daylight ambush.
Sirajul Haque, chairman of Raipura Upazila’s Banshgari Union, was attacked on Thursday while he was on his way to home from the Raipura town, said police.
Witnesses said assailants ambushed Haque, a local Awami League leader, in his native Banshgari when they opened fire and hacked him with sharp weapons to ensure death.
Locals rushed him to the state-run hospital in Raipura in a critical condition. He succumbed to the injuries later while being transferred to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Police suspect the motive of the murder to be a previous feud.
“So far, no arrests have been made, but we hope the perpetrators can be brought to justice soon,” Additional Superintendent of Police Shahriar Alam said.
