Unidentified men opened fire on PCJSS vice-president Shaktiman and his aide when they were about to enter the office building, Bangla Tribune’s Rangamati correspondent reported quoting witnesses.
Shaktiman, a lawyer by profession, died on the spot.
The PCJSS (MN Larma) has blamed the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) for the killing.
“UPDF men opened fire on Shaktiman Chakma as he was on his way to his office,” PCJSS Assistant Secretary Prashanta Chakma said.
The UPDF has denied of being involved. “It’s a false and fabricated allegation,” said its spokesperson Niran Chakma.
The UPDF came into existence when many in Chattogram (Chittagong) hill tract districts opposed the 1997 peace treaty between the Bangladesh government and the PCJSS.
Since then, the two groups have fought a bitter turf war and many on both sides have died in the hill districts.
