Son-in-law of Fisheries and Livestock Minister Narayan Chandra Chanda and central bank official Probhas Kumar Dutta, 56, has been shot and injured in Khulna.

The incident was reported around 10:30pm on Friday at his Bakshipara residence when masked assailants shot Probhash, who is a Deputy General Manager of Bangladesh Bank Khulna branch.

Locals, later took him to hospital where he went surgery, said Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) ADC and media wing chief Sonali Sen.

According to a local source, around 10:30pm attackers knocked at his gate and shot him as soon as he opened it.

Probhash’s son is currenty staying at India’s Odisha while his daughter in a resident of Dhaka, added the source.

Sonadanga Model Police Second Officer SI Shahidul Islam told Bangla Tribune, “He was shot in his stomach.”

Elder brother of Probhash’s wife Dr Biswajit Chandra said, “Probhash had no enemy. It’s hard to tell why he was targeted until he recovers.”

He, however, added that they are suspecting it to be an attempt to induce psychological pressure on his father who is running in the upcoming national polls.
