Admitting that a crisis has erupted over holding an all-inclusive general election, Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu says the government is now trying to solve it peacefully through talks.
“Talks have just begun and I believe all registered parties will participate in the national election,” Inu on Saturday (Nov 3).
Inu, who is the president of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, spoke to the media after paying tribute at the portraits of four national leaders at Kushita to mark the Jail Killing day.
Referring to the Nov 1 talks between 14-party Alliance and Jatiya Okiya Front, the minister said, “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina welcomed the talks and sat (with them) for nearly four hours.”
“Don’t take the talks as a trick” Inu urged the Oikya Front leaders.
On the next general election, the minister said, “At present, there is no bar to join the polls for any registered parties and I don’t think the election will fail.”
“A space for settlement will be created through talks and, confusion, as well as lack of confidence, will reduce,” he said.
