Two alleged drug peddlers have been killed in Cox’s Bazar in what the police describe as a shootout.
The incident was reported early on Sunday from the district’s Teknaf Upazila, said police.
The victims are identified as Hassan Ali, 35 and Md Hossain Prakash Kamal, 28.
Sub Inspector Razu Ahmed Gazi, Assistant Sub Inspector Mithun Kumar Bhowmik and Constable Ibrahim Khalil were also injured in the shootout, and are presently undergoing treatment at Teknaf Hospital, said police sources.
“Tipped-off, police conducted a raid at Katabonia area under Sabrang union on early hours of Sunday. Sensing the presence of the of law enforcers, some yaba traders fired at them. In self defence police had to retaliate which triggered the shootout. Later, two bodies were found from the scene,” said Cox’s Bazar Superintendent of police ABM Masud Hossain.
“Six firearms, 25 rounds of ammunition and 10,000 yaba tablets were seized from the scene,” added Masud.
The bodies are kept at Teknaf Health Complex.
The two were accused in several cases filed under the Narcotics Control Act.
