Commuters suffer as transport strike underway

Transport workers union, on Saturday, called the strike from to press their eight demands, including amendment to the recently-enacted Road Transport Act 2018.
Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation (BRTWF) made the announcement on Saturday at a statement sent to the media.

Long-haul bus services are not operational either, causing severe inconvenience to people across the country.

One of them, a private university student, Mamtaz told Bangla Tribune that she is not being able to attend her semester final exam, scheduled to be held on Monday.

Rangpur Divisional Road Transport Federation’s General Secretary Abdul Mozid said that their movement will continue until their demands are met.

Zakir Hossain Biplop, a transport sector leader in Khulna, said, “These are not only our demands but these are the demands of the people.”

People are tolerating the trouble caused by the strike for the sake of their demands, he claimed.

In Bandarban city, Rickshaws, Auto-Rickshaws were the only means of transport operational.
