The death toll in Friday’s road crash in Panchagarh has increased to 11.
The tragic incident was reported from Dashmail area of the district’s Sadar Upazila at 8:15pm on Friday (Oct 26), said police.
The deceased are Lovely Begum, 29, Yeasin Ali, 7, Rezaul Karim, 22, Anittyo, 20, Faridul Islam, 30, Rasel, 20, Yunus Ali, 28, Monir, 6, Mozammel, 38, Rahela, 25 and Mojibor Rahman, 32.
The last deceased Mojibor Rahman, an assistant teacher of Banglabandha Paglidangi Model High School, was declared dead around 10pm on Saturday while he was being treated at Rangpur Medical College Hospital, said Md Saniul Ferdous, president of Banglabandha Paglidangi Model High School.
Sadar police OC Akkas Ali told Bangla Tribune, “The accident happened as a Panchagarh-bound truck, carrying concrete electricity poles, collided head-on with a Tetulia-bound bus, coming from opposite direction, killing six people on the spot.”
Police, firefighters and locals rescued the injured and took them to the state-owned hospital in the district from where some of them were sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
