Hundreds of leaders and activists of the ruling Awami League and its associate bodies have taken oath to protect Bangladesh from anti-liberation forces.
They took the oath on Saturday, following a call by Narayanganj 4 lawmaker Shamim Osman at a public meeting held at AKM Shamsuzzoha Sports Complex in Narayanganj, reports Dhaka Tribune.
"The public meeting was not called for the next general poll, but to prevent the conspiracies that are being hatched by anti-liberation forces to foil the election," Shamim Osman said while addressing the rally.
Criticizing eminent jurist Dr Kamal Hossain, who is leading the newly formed Jatiya Oikya Front, Osman said the unity is not for elections: they are here to foil it.
He requested Awami League activists to prepare themselves to win the fight.
"Sheikh Hasina will become the prime minister and Awami League will come to power again. Keep your eyes and ears open. We do have insider enemies too," the Narayanganj lawmaker said.A large number of people carrying banners, festoons, and placards joined the meeting which was addressed by top leaders of Narayanganj Awami League and its associate bodies.
Dr Kamal Hossain formed the Oikya Front with 20 parties on October 13.
