Husband sentenced to death for wife`s murderA judge court in Kushtia has sentenced a man to death and a fine of Tk 50,000 for the murder of his wife.
A judge at the Women and Children Repression Prevention tribunal, Md Moshiar Rahman gave the verdict on Wednesday (Sept 26).
The Public Prosecutor (PP) of the court, Akram Hossain said the condemned is 35-year-old Atiar Rahman who was married to Shahana Rahman.
According to Hossain, Shahana’s husband and in-laws had been torturing her for dowry since the beginning of the marriage.
On Sept 27 2006, her husband and his family pressured her again to bring Tk 50,000 from her father’s house. When she refused to comply, Atiar and his family killed her.
Shahana’s family filed a case with Kushtia model police the day after her death against her husband and his family.
After a long 12 years of trial Atiar was brought to justice. His family however, has been acquitted.
