ACC stops decades old malpractice in Khulna

Anti Corruption Commission BangladeshKhulna deputy civil surgeon, Dr Atiur Rahman, has admitted to providing medical clearance certificates to overseas travelers for money.
The doctor made the confession to the Anti-Corruption Commission, ACC on Sunday (Sept 24).
Assistant director of ACC, Md Shaon Mia says: “during questioning, he admitted to taking Tk 250 per person for the certificate.”
Of this, 200 goes to the doctor, the rest to the office staff, informed the ACC officer.
“The doctor has been warned and a system has been introduced to provide medical certificates free of cost.”
Deputy civil surgeon, Dr Atiur Rahman Sheikh, said: “When I joined the service in 1986, the system of providing Tk 250 for certificates was present and no receipts were ever given for them.”
Meanwhile, ACC’s Khulna office says that there was a complaint that Tk 1500 to Tk 2000 was being demanded giving certificates to overseas travelers.

During the drive, the doctor promised not to take any money to issue certificates in the future.
