The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) said house help Tania was arrested from Cumilla late on Sunday.
Earlier in the day, the Sylhet police arrested another suspect identified as Emdadur Rahman Rafi.
On the morning of Apr 1, 40-year-old Rokeya Begum and 16-year-old Rabiul Islam Rokon were found murdered in their flat at the city’s Mirabazar area.
Rokeya’s 5-year-old daughter Raisa was found on the ground floor of the three-storey building where the family lived as tenants.
Neighbours said that Rokeya, who ran a beauty salon, had an argument with her house help Tania a few days ago.
Tania, who had been working for six months, left the job following the incident. A few days later she showed up with two to three men at Rokeya’s home when another round of argument broke out, according to locals.
Superintendent Sarwar Jahan of the PBI’s Sylhet chapter said, “Tania has been arrested from Cumilla’s Titas after her location was tracked there.”
Meanwhile, the Sylhet Metropolitan Police arrested another suspect identified as 30-year-old Emdadur Rahman Rafi.
“He was arrested based on information provided by suspect Nazmul during interrogation,” Inspector Rokeya Begum of the city’s Kotwali Police Station.
Police produced Rafi in court on Sunday and pleaded to take him in custody, but was ordered to take the suspect to jail.
