Miscreants shot dead two members of United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) at their homes in Rangamati, police said.
Locals have blamed the Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJS, MN Larma) for carrying out the killings, which the PCJS denied.
The incident took place at Ramsuparipara area under Naniarchar Upazila at 3am on Friday (Sept 21).
The victims were identified as Akorshon Chakma, 42, son of Juddho Mahon Chakma and Shyamol Kanti Chakma Sumonto, 30, son of Adri Peda Chakma. Both hailed from the area.
Locals said the duo had recently joined the UPDF after leaving the PCJS, which may lead to their deaths.
According to sources at law enforcement agencies, they were the UPDF’s ‘collector’ in the areas.
UPDF’s chief of publicity Niron Chakma told Bangla Tribune that they are yet to learn about the killings.
The PCJS, however, denied its involvement describing the murder a result of party infighting.
“UPDF has blamed us carrying out killings,” said Prashanto Chakma, assistant publicity secretary of PCJS-MN Larma.
Naniarchar police OC Abdul Latif said, “We’ve learned about the killings and forces were on the way to the murder scene.”
