Officials and workers cleaned up the station area and beefed up the security for Quader’s arrival.Senior Awami League leader Obaidul Quader was expected to hold a brief rally at Sirajganj’s Shaheed M Mansur Ali Railway Station on the west bank of the Jamuna on Saturday as a part of electoral trip to the northern part of the country.
An AL media statement issued on Friday had scheduled the rally, but it was cancelled on Friday as the Nilphamari-bound Nil Sagar Express does not make a stop at the station.
The train crossed the station around 12:10pm.
Station Master Jamal Uddin said that ‘Nil Sagar’ does not stop at any of the stations in Sirajganj.
“However, we were prepared”, he said.
Earlier, officials and workers cleaned up the station area and beefed up the security for Quader’s arrival.
Several Sirajganj-based government officials were at the station but, no AL activists were seen.
Sirajganj-2 MP Habibe Millat Munna said, “No AL leaders or workers were not there as we knew earlier that the train will not stop at the station.”
