School student, Rasel Mia, 14, who was shot by BSF, has returned to his home in Kurigram from India.
But the boy has come back without visual sight on his right eye. After tests, doctors at All India Institute of medical Sciences, AIIMS, said he will not be able to see with his right eye.
A student of class nine, Rasel, on 30 April, went near the Indian border to cut grass as fodder for cows when a splinter from a gun shot fired by BSF hit his right eyes.
Later, Rasel was admitted to the Rangpur Prime Medical College and eventually brought to Dhaka. Since the situation did not improve, the Indian High Commission sent the boy to India on 28 July.
Rasel was under the care of Dr. Pradip Kumar and Dr. Sunil Kumar for nine days.
Quoting the doctors, Rasel’s elder brother, Rubel, said: “the eye has been fully damaged by the splinter and cannot be restored.”
Doctors feared that an operation might affect the other eye and, therefore, released him, added Rubel.
Rubel Mia has demanded compensation from BSF with Rasel descending into depression.
“We had to sell our domestic animals and take a loan of around Tk. 1.5 lakh to meet the expenses of the treatment,” said Rasel’s father, Abdul Hanif Mia.
With a promising teenager partially blind, the family is distraught.
