Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration & Production Company Limited (BAPEX) has found gas in a new well at Srikail in Brahmanbaria distrit’s Nabinagar Upazila. As a result, another 12 million cubic feet of gas may be added to the national grid.

Managing Director of BAPEX, Mir Md Abdul Hannan said on Wednesday (Mar 4) that the pressure of gas in the well was 1880 pound/inch and currently, work is underway to clean the well.

Project Director of Srikail east-1 well, Syed Muhammad Kabir, said: “BAPEX came to know of gas in 2017-2018; the rig was placed on Oct 28, 2019 and the work was started.”

Excavation official Muhammad Mohsin Alam said that the initial gas pressure is positive; after several more tests the gas can be supplied to the national grid.

MD of BAPEX, Md Alamgir Hossain, said: “Gas was found at a depth of 3080 metres and it’s expected that the national grid will be getting 12 to 15 million cubic feet of gas from this well. This is a gift from BAPEX to the nation on occasion of Mujib’s birth centenary.”
