Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) chairman Shamsur RahmanThere is no shortage of diesel in the country, the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) chief said before warning stern actions against unscrupulous traders for hoarding in a bid to create an artificial crisis to make windfall gains.
“A rumour has been swirling that diesel price will skyrocket as the stocks are depleting," its chairman Shamsur Rahman told a media call on Wednesday (Jan 29).
On the increased sales of fossil fuel, the BPC chief said that the government agency has noticed the doubling of the sales in current January comparing with the previous year’s January.
He also said that the matter is being looked into.
“The stock of diesel is well enough to meet the demand of the next 13 days,” Rahman said before highlighting the estimated stock figures over the next six weeks.
“Rather, we were seeking ways to sell the excess diesel in the local market,” he added.
On smuggling of fuel, he said, “We have requested the Border Guard Bangladesh to beef up surveillance.”
According to the BPC chief, the state-owned entity has asked depots to reports on their stocks.
